As leading designers, manufacturers and installers of conveyors, you’d understandibly believe that this is the be all and end all of our company. True, creating bespoke conveyor systems is our number one forte, but our engineering skills don’t stop there. Would it surprise you to learn that our engineering team also design and fabricate mezzanine floors in buildings across the UK? In this feature we take you through the process of creating a bespoke mezzanine floor for our own conveyors workshop.
Central Conveyors are still at the early stages of creating the mezzanine floor, but the first process involves a site survey – easily achieved seeing as it’s our own premises! We only just recently moved to a new premises which comprises offices and a vast, open plan floor space with a very high ceiling. It’s this empty space that mezzanine floors are ideal for, and what we – and many other companies – wish to make use of. The site survey is an opportunity to run our eye over the environment our mezzanines or conveyors will be situated in. We can assertain information regarding surface inclines, the strength of and material used for the floor, height, and access points – you don’t want to build something that won’t fit through the doors! It’s also at this stage that a customer will tell us what they’re trying to acheive, and how they imagine things will work. We’ll get a good idea of what’s required and make suggestions as appropriate.
Following the site survey, our engineering team will create rough sketches which outline the basic concept of what we are looking to achieve. From here we’ll create CAD drawings using software called SolidWorks. This allows us to input accurate measurements and design a wide range of different floor loading structures to suit various applications and storage weights. In our case the mezzanine is 16000mm long x 5000mm wide (16m x 5m), rising to a height of 3000mm (3m). That’s 80 square meters of additional floorspace previously unavailable to us! When you look at it like that, it’s no wonder so many companies want their own mezzanine flooring.
Central Conveyors are currently in the process of fabricating our mezzanine floor, but as soon as it’s complete we’ll publish some photos via our blog. We’re really excited at the prospect of having all the additional space that mezzanine floors bring to businesses. In the meantime, if you’d like to discuss these space creating marvels, contact us now. And don’t forget, we produce bespoke mezzanine conveyors to help businesses get their products and materials up from point A to point B, and if necessary down again. CCL can manufacture and install industrial, retail and office mezzanines at very cost effective rates. We also design, fabricate and install bespoke industrial storage units.
