In March this year Central Conveyors were approached by the Anish Kapoor Studio for the purpose of assisting the artist with one of his sculpture projects. Mr Kapoor is a renowned creative thinker who has produced a series of high profile sculptures around the world, including his recent ArcelorMittal Orbit at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London. Mr Kapoor’s sculptures are extremely thought provoking, and as a consequence he has a vast following globally.
At this point we had to pay extra attention to the environment that the conveyors would be displayed in. Some of the flooring in the Museum dated back to the 18th century, so simply bolting each conveyor to the floor was not an option. After due consideration and consultation, CCL were able to engineer a solution which met Mr Kapoor’s aesthetic expectations, while at the same time ensuring the structures would stand securely, with all safety considerations met. After fabrication and painting, testing and sign off, the conveyors were transported from our Leicestershire facility on two articulated lorries to Berlin. The conveyors were delivered on time following a journey that took three days to complete.
As part of the pre-installation process, we were asked to provide a step-by-step construction guide, in the form of easy to interpret 3D graphics. Ordinarily CCL would provide a full installation service, but in this case the customer had his own dedicated installation team. Our Managing Director, Steve Wheatley, was asked to oversee the installation process to provide any necessary advice required on the day. We are pleased to say that the installation process ran smoothly and the job was successfully completed on time, with minimal fuss. CCL wish Mr Kapoor all the best for his exhibition. We’re proud to have assisted him with his creative vision.
