Screw conveyor feeding the pulp into our waste conveyor
On the face of it, a very simple application. The requirement was to carry pulped paper waste up into a skip lorry.
To make it more interesting, the conveyor had to be able to rotate from side to side, and also elevate up and down, on command of the operator. This was to ensure that the skip was filled smoothly and evenly, maximising the amount of waste carried per skip, and hence minimising transport costs.
And to make it even more interesting, the pulped material was ... banknotes !
The conveyor rotated under the influence of two wheels powered by an electric motor, and was elevated/depressed by hydraulic cylinders controlled electrically from a hydraulic power pack.
The conveyor also had to be covered to prevent the possibility of a rainstorm saturating the pulp to the point where it formed a slurry and could no longer be carried.
The pulped paper enters the conveyor hopper via a screw conveyor. The pulp could vary considerably in consistency, from a semi-liquid to a stiff cake. This required careful choice and geometry for the belt to ensure that the product would be carried at all elevation and rotation positions.
